Lea Tiernan

Initially, the objects I create are a reaction to an enjoyment of making. The materials I use react to one another, whether it is through colour, texture or another component. These objects aim to be intriguing and tactile, always with the viewer in mind.

Due to their tactility I often invite the viewer to interact with the objects through touching, holding and sometimes even destruction. For this reason my practice raises questions about what is appropriate when reacting to art objects, notably, in a gallery environment.

The objects I make stimulate a ‘Please Touch’ approach. I remind gallery-goes that this is not the norm. I use different methods to create a platform in which the viewers can touch, but are reminded they are doing so.
